FEDERICO RAMOS
Biography

Breathtakingly unexpected, like a hypnotic calling that provokes curiosity and the awakening of the senses is musician and artist Federico Ramos. His identity as a guitarist, composer and producer is the result of an endless endeavor into the art of music that summons the richness of artistic expressions from diverse cultures.

Although Federico began his music studies in Montevideo, capital city of his native Uruguay, the musical roots of his ancestors first directed him to Southern Spain. In his five-year residency he got involved with the art of Flamenco and he worked and studied with masters of the genre. Although he enrolled in the Real Conservatorio de Madrid, his unceasing interests eventually brought Federico to the United States where he studied formally at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, Berklee College of Music in Boston and the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. There, he was the recipient of full scholarships and obtained a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts.

Soon after his arrival in the U.S., Federico co-founded Eternal Wind, a band whose music style is characterized by boundless expressions of improvisational compositions of world sounds. The band released a dozen recordings in the Chicago based labels Flying Fish and Meta Music as well as the European based ACT Records. These recordings include works with the Koln Radio Orchestra and several other works with Dr Yusef Lateef with whom Federico has toured and recorded extensively since the year 1988. The most recently of such deeds is the release in September of 2001 of the disc and video Live at the Luckman Theatre on the YAL Records label. Recently,  the video of the live performance of The World at Peace with Adam Rudolph and Yusef Lateef at the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles has been released.  In 1993 Federico joined the band of English rocker Jon Anderson, lead singer of the legendary band Yes with whom as many as seven recordings have been released on the Iron Clad, High Street and Windham Hill Records label.

Federicos artistic development transcended upon welding his years of musical apprenticeship of a myriad of cultures with that of his native country. In recent years Federico released recordings of South American music on the Vertical Jazz, Amazone and Discomforme Labels.

Federicos guitars can be heard on as many as twenty Hollywood major film and TV soundtracks, and the range of his collaborations extends to works with artists such as Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Milton Nascimento, Cheb Mami, Jackson Browne, Dionne Warwick and Elton John.
